Hi,
I am trying to print a fuselage in slices and facing the same issue as the topic starter. I understand the solution provided above but this approach is applicable when each slice is cut in half. I would prefer to keep each slice as one piece. Is there any way to achieve this?

A simplified question would be how do I cut a figure like this one
Image
where lets say A = 2*B and surface A is located on one side of the foam and surface B on another. Using 'Sweepback' property from Cutting wizard I can align by X coordinate. How do I align by Y?

Thank you.

Bonjour Vz,
Hello Vz,
It is possible to cut out complete sections of fuselage.
In the example, you have to draw a square; on the left side, this side must consist of 2 segments of equal length to have a point of attachment in the middle of the side. The 2 profiles are loaded, put the ropes (150 and 75 mm and the skin thicknesses, 0.7 and 1.1 (1.1 because the speed of the hot wire will be 1/2 of the root speed).
Set the starting height equal to: 150mm / 2 or 75mm + 5mm margin on the stock. so 80mm. Clearance height does not matter, it will not be used.

Image

We go to the cutting assistant: we inform the length of the section, we put the arrow equals (150 -75) / 2 = 37.5mm, we center on the width of the table. We see that it is advantageous to have a modular cutting table in width if we want to achieve short length sections.

Image

The cutting cycle: we will cut continuously without return. You move the point 1 on the middle of the left side and the point 2 in the bottom right corner, the first vertical you check "Height of departure", and counted, then horizontal then extrados, then intrados and check inverted, horizontal ticked Reset counter, then vertical Raz Counter. Your thread returns to the starting point.

Image

Cutting simulation: we see that the two pairs are centered.

Bonne découpe Good cutting

Hi Alain,
Thank you for the detailed response.
I followed you advice and cut that figure successfully.

As a next step I needed to move the smaller surface 10mm higher, so I created 2 square profiles, one profile had left side built of 2 equal segments, the other had one segment longer and one shorter (10mm difference). The entire project got messed up. It looks like the solution you provided works only when both root and tip profiles are exactly the same, am I right?

And just to avoid any further questions - could you please explain how to cut a fuselage slice using these profiles - https://filebin.net/ooshqhkqmtj6taad? Slice is 100mm thick, the highest point of the smaller profile is 10mm lower than the highest point of the bigger profile, profiles are centered on X coordinate. For now the slice has only outer cut, it is not hollow. Here is what I expect to see in the cut preview - https://filebin.net/qzxqxjx3w37alecy/fo ... t=9onse3wv

Thank you!

Bonjour Vzgherea,

Just turn your xx.dxf 90 ° counterclockwise.
Then you do as the first test and you put 10mm arrow.
That's what it gives:

Oh, so simple! :)
It worked well, thank you!

I also tried to cut a hollow slice, it worked but I had to do this in 2 cuts (2 separate projects). Is there any way to cut a hollow slice in one go/project?
I would like to add to the slice from my previous post an inner cut that uses same profiles but it is lets say 10mm smaller than the outer ones.

Hello !

A "hollow slice" is the same thing that Aeroden show you with screenshot, or I don't understand what you want to do... :?

Bonjour Vz...

Tu as 2 nouveaux couples comme ceci :
I think I understand:
With the drawing software you draw a parallel inside, then you cut to the left width 2mm.
You have 2 new couples like this:

Tu découpes d'abord l'intérieur .
You first cut the inside.

Gracias
