Jedicut aceepts DXF profile, but It won't cut (Icons grayed out)

1
Hi I started using Jedicut many years ago for foam wings. I have not used it often for the last few years because I stopped building models. Now I would like to continue cutting foam with it, but this time, I want to cut other kinds of profiles. For those I am trying to use the load dxf function.

It all seems to work when I load a dxf file, but all of the cut buttons are grayed out. I see the profile in the view, I see all of the coordinates in the panel on the right. But there is no way to proceed to cut.

It seems to me if the dxf has loaded correctly, it should cut it.

I am doing this using an older IBM Thinkpad T43 laptop, running Windows XP, using the parallel port to cut. The version of Jedicut is the latest 2.4.2 downloaded today from your website and freshly installed.

I've attached the foam cutting file dxf. Thanks very much for your help!

Okay I just figured something out.

The profile part of Jedicut is NOT for cutting anything. It is for simply examining a profile. A profile is just an outline. It's like an airfoil. You can import a DXF into it the profile section of the program, but you can't directly cut that as a shape there.

To cut a DXF as a shape (if the Jedicut computer is directly coupled to a hot wire cutter through its parallel port) you would go to the wing cut section of Jedicut. It doesn't matter if you aren't actually cutting a "wing" per se -- it could be anything you want in foam, but the terminology used here is a "wing".

In the wing cut section of the program, you make your "wing root" section the dxf shape you want to cut, by doing a lookup for the .dxf file using the little folder icon under "Wing Root".

If you don't want to taper whatever you are cutting, you can click "symmetrical profile" which will add the same shape to the "Wing \Tip". Now you have your shapes onboard.
